Research Forum

Lunch Break [Working Lunch] (Day 1) Monday 22nd June 2015

Meeting Room 2 [first floor]

Target Audience: Academia (local and foreign), Service Providers, Pharmaceutical Companies, International Development Partners, Foundations

Chaired by: Prof Leslie Rubin, Emory University.

Increasingly in Nigeria and sub Saharan Africa there is now a greater occurrence of disabilities and more specifically, intellectual and developmental disabilities. However little or no research has been carried out for the peculiarities that obtains in our respective domains. This has left practitioners and care givers to rely on research obtained from other parts of the world as it relates to the diagnosis and management of disabilities particularly intellectual and developmental disabilities within the local jurisdiction.

The research forum of the conference is a platform for the academia (both local and the visiting international speakers), practitioners and other key stakeholders to discuss and share areas of proposed research that will most importantly benefit the sub Saharan region.

Efforts will be made to streamline topics for research and create research focus groups and working committees who, under the platform of the LOC (conference Local Organising Committee) source for local and international funding for this project area.
